Filled with intriguing story lines and a smoking hot cast, Dirty Sexy Money focuses on a idealistic attorney wrestling with his father's death and the family that may be responsible for it. Peter Krause (Six Feet Under) stars as Nick George, whose father was the legal counsel for the Darling family and good friends with patriarch Tripp (Donald Sutherland) and his wife Letitia (Jill Clayburgh). When Nick is offered to take his father's position with the family, he goes through a gamut of emotions: He never saw his father because his dad was always tending to the Darlings' needs; he had dated troubled Darling daughter Karen when they were younger. He doesn't want to get sucked up into the drama that is their life but, like his father, he is unable to resist both the salary (upwards of $10 million) and the Darlings' tremulous connection to his dad. But that money doesn't come without strings; Nick serves as both counsel and therapist to the family. Occasionally, he is also asked to play the role of errand boy (When favored son and rising politician Patrick (William Baldwin)--who is married--wants to break up with his tranny girlfriend, he asks Nick to do it. And to give her a check to show his affection). To his credit, Nick says, "I'm not going to go into a hotel and give a tranny hooker a check." To which Patrick says, "She's not a hooker!" All 10 episodes of the debut season are included in this boxed set. Executive produced by Greg Berlanti (Dawson's Creek, Brothers & Sisters, Eli Stone), the thoroughly entertaining drama has a group of characters that keep viewers glued to the screen. Karen is a boozy socialite who switches husbands often; Patrick can't stand up to his wife, even after she kinda-sorta shoots him; Tripp and Letitia have a litany of secrets that affects their marriage and their children; Nick finds himself sparring (both verbally and otherwise) with their eldest son, the Rev. Brian Darling. And whether Nick has found a friend or foe in charming multi-millionaire Simon Elder (Blair Underwood) has yet to be determined. Dirty? Yes. Sexy? Absolutely. As for the money, it just may be the root of some of the Darlings' evil. --Jae-Ha Kim

Unless you're into adultery, it'll leave you feeling like crap3
I watched the first episode just because it was so heavily advertised at the the theaters. The main plot of the story is about Nick George trying to deal with the Darling Family problems. The Darling Family is worth 35 billion dollars. The plot point that will keep you watching is Nick's search to find who killed his father.
When I finished watching the first season, I decided I'm not going to continue watching unless Season 2's DVD set has amazing reviews. While the show is quite tame in terms of sexuality, there's so much philandering that it feels like a soap opera on steroids. Here are some examples (spoilers):
It's learned that Mrs. Darling had a 40 yr affair with Nick's father who used to occupy Nick's current occupation. Karen Darling, the oldest daughter, is on her 4th husband, but still cheats. Pat Darling Jr is cheating on his wife with a transexual. Brian Darling, a minister, cheats on his wife, apologizes and tries to repair, then cheats on her again. And the youngest twins are also quite messed up. The only normal couple in the show is the Georges, and they're constantly being forced apart by different Darling family members who have their sights set on getting them. Both have already been kissed by members of the Darling family, and neither confessed it to each other. Mrs. Darling, though recognizing that her 40 yr affair has ruined her life, has agreed to help her daughter Karen win back Nick's affections and destroy his marriage to Lisa.
The show is just messed up. While the murder sub-plot involving Simon Elder is interesting, it's just not enough to justify the lameness surrounding the Darling family. All the philandering will leave you sick.

One of the best on TV5
I have watched every episode but I don't remember a transgender character on this show like the previous viewer stated. If you watch or buy this series you won't be disappointed. It is very good.

Entertaining show that will get you thinking4
This is a surprising show. Based on the title and subject matter, it may seem like a superficial love letter to the culture of the rich, the shallow and people famous for being famous, but it is so much more. I haven't seen the 1st season DVD yet, so this review is based on the 1st season episodes aired on ABC. Hopefully there will be DVD extras that add to the enjoyment of this set, though details haven't been provided yet.

In Dirty Sexy Money, the writers explore the meaning of extraordinary wealth and power, how those things can support an individual and give freedom, but also how they can distract people from their own true selves, their purpose and from what is really important. What does it mean to grow up in an environment with limitless resources? To live in an environment where anything, or anyone, you want can be bought? How does an individual in that environment find purpose or meaning in his/her life and relate to others? Is it a given that people in that situation will be corrupt or shallow? Or do we, as the public, just expect them to be, and so they seem to live up (and down) to our expectations? And what if you or I had the opportunity to join them, would we? And at what cost?

Those are the kinds of questions Dirty Sexy Money asks. Along the way there is a fun, rollicking soap opera-ish ride, with scheming characters, luxurious sets, beautiful people, gorgeous New York City scenery (in the pilot anyway) and amazing, amazing acting.

Sure, in this first season, there are uneven moments as the show finds its tone and its footing, but the characters and the situations will draw you in and entertain you nonetheless.

If you want, come for the flash, the beautiful people/clothes and the humor (there will be plenty), but stay for the writing and the performances (pretty much everyone in the cast delivers, and there are moments with Donald Sutherland, Peter Krause, Jill Clayburgh, Glenn Fitzgerald, Seth Gabel and others that are breathtaking) , and the commentary the series makes about how morality, balance, and humanity might even survive in our world, a world which often seems to only value superficial beauty, power and wealth.
