At long last, the definitive official DVD for one of the greatest groups of the sixties (or any other decade for that matter). Small Faces: All Or Nothing 1965-1968 features 27 complete performances filmed from 1965 to 1968 when the band was challenging the Who, Kinks, Stones and Beatles for domination of the charts. The DVD captures every aspect of their short but brilliant career including early Mod/R&B classics such as 'What'cha Gonna Do About It', 'Sha La La La Lee' and 'All Or Nothing', timeless rockers like 'Tin Soldier' and later psychedelic masterpieces including 'Itchycoo Park', and 'Green Circles.' The White Stripes: Under Great White Northern Lights

92 minute documentary film containing footage from the 2007 Canadian tour shot and directed by Emmett Malloy.

In the summer of 2007, shortly after the release of their 6th album 'Icky Thump', The White Stripes headed north of their hometown of Detroit to embark on an ambitious journey across Canada. The plan was to play a show in every province and territory in Canada, from B.C. to Newfoundland to Nunavut. 'Having never done a tour of Canada, Meg and I thought it was high time to go whole hog... from the ocean to the permafrost' says Jack White. 'We wanted to play out of the way towns that don't usually get shows... the shows are better, it's better for the people, it's a better experience, it's way more unique, something interesting is going to happen... hopefully.'
White called upon filmmaker Emmett Malloy to come and document this trek for the band. Malloy had directed videos for the band in the past, and seemed eager to hit the road with them. Equipped with a couple of 16mm cameras, and a few other documenting devices, the band and crew all headed north. The end result was 'Under Great White Northern Lights'.

Initially broadcast as a TV miniseries to go with the series of three Anthology double-CD albums, this set of eight documentary tapes has the heft and scope of one of Ken Burns's expansive projects. Still, unless you are either a historian or a truly committed fan, you'll find yourself with way more material--particularly about the Beatles' early lives as lads in Liverpool--than you'll want to watch. The documentary material is copious, including early performance films and tapes, at the point before they found their true voices. The actual Beatlemania years--beginning in 1963 and concluding in 1970--feature extensive performance films, as well as home movies and archival material. The best parts, of course, are the interviews with the Beatles themselves, who produced the entire thing. Along with reworking two previously unreleased John Lennon tracks as "new Beatles songs," the Anthology includes some unseen Lennon interview tapes so that his acerbic voice can be heard as well. This stands as a comprehensive document of that heady period, the second coming of rock & roll, as the Beatles took what Elvis had started and expanded upon it exponentially. The tapes give a solid sense of the historical context and the way these four musicians changed the world around them in the 1960s.

If You Liked The TV Special, You'll Love This!
This video series is highly recommended for any serious Beatle fan! While I agree that you can't say it all in just 8 hours, all 4 beatles share stuff you won't find in any book on the Beatles.

Tape 1 begins with a video collage of their history, features their youthful beginnings, days in Hamburg, how Ringo joined the band, and their rise to the top in England.

Tape 2 shows their growth as a band, talks on their BBC sessions, performing for the Queen, stories about touring, and some hilarious TV segments!

Tape 3 begins with their introduction into America, talks about their performance on the Ed Sullivan Show, Ringo's tonsilitis, and their 1st movie A Hard Day's Night.

Tape 4 talks about the pressures of touring, drugs, Dylan, the making of Help!, the inspiration for Yesterday, and winning the MBE award.

Tape 5 talks about their Shea Stadium performance, meeting Elvis, Rubber Soul and Revolver.

Tape 6 talks on the events that led to the Beatles' final tour in 1966 (the Philippines and John's remarks about Jesus), Strawberry Fields Forever, Penny Lane,Sgt. Pepper, and their holiday in Greece.

Tape 7 starts with the One World performance of "All You Need Is Love", and talks about the Maharishi, the death of Brian Epstein, Magical Mystery Tour, the opening of Apple, Yellow Submarine, and John's new companion, Yoko Ono.

"Magic it is and magic it always was."
Back in January 2000, I reviewed this box set here (see "If You Liked the TV Special, You'll Love This!"). 3 years later, many Beatles fans' prayers (including my own) have been answered with the release of this video library in DVD form. Rather than resay what I said back then, I just thought I'd write with a different perspective. The opening statement is from the liner notes of Derek Taylor, who served as the Beatles' press agent.

To answer a recent review, here's what's on it: performances of the Beatles live in concert and television performances (not complete concerts), some original videos, narrated by Sir Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, the late George Harrison (who was still around during the making of this documentary) and the late John Lennon (his comments are culled by old interviews), excerpts from early recordings, studio outtakes, press conferences and all 5 of their movies and finally, over 30 complete Beatles tracks (By the way, "Real Love" is included in this edition).

The sound quality is superior here than the original VHS (and you have the option of LPCM Stereo, Dolby Digital surround sound and DTS 5.1 surround sound). You also have the option of subtitles in English, German, Spanish, French, Italian, and Portuguese (Brazilian and European). Just don't expect your Linguistics teachers to be impressed with how many French or Spanish words you learned while watching this!

It is a bit of a shame that individual tracks weren't assembled for complete songs. Oh well, a minour disappointment! Keep in mind that the 8 video VHS box set was actually pricier than the 5 DVD box set back when it was released in 1996 (I remember paying over [money] for mine!).

Then of course, there's the Special Features DVD. In addition to the "Real Love" video (which wasn't included on the original VHS edition), there's a segment in which Paul, George and Ringo all gather together in 1994 to discuss the old days and jam out on old songs. The 3 are also featured here in 1995 discussing with George Martin, their producer, the choosing of different outtakes on the 3 Anthology CD's and studio techniques they used during the original recording sessions. Paul, George and Ringo also discuss with Jeff Lynne how a Beatles mini-"reunion" took place with 2 John Lennon demos ("Free As a Bird" and "Real Love"). Also, there's a section on how many hours of interviews and classic footage came together for this documentary and a feature on how the "Free as a Bird" video was made.

Give yourself at least 2 weeks to enjoy as Derek Taylor once put it these "10 hours of unchallengable evidence" of the Beatles' legacy, which continues even to this day.

The Beatles Forever.
As the bombs fell over England in 1940, John Winston Lennon was born and as war raged, Sir James Paul McCartney, George Harrison, and Richard Starkey a.k.a. Ringo Starr began their young lives in a dirty port city called Liverpool. They were mostly poor boys who today are legends.

The most interesting thing from the TV special in 1995, the 3 albums that followed and the 8 VHS tapes that expanded the story was the fact that it was "The Beatles" in their own words and recollections.

There's so much packed inside this story and safe to say, so much more we don't know, that it is engrossing each time you watch it. The interweaving of outtakes, never before heard songs and footage is beautiful. George Martin's emotional talk and tears as he remembers John Lennon is heartwrenching. You see here the strength of the four lads from Liverpool, the closeness of their friendship and those involved with them.

The DVD version is jammed with more than the 8 VHS tapes and elevates the "Anthology" to a rounder story. At the time of its initial release, there were 3 surviving Beatles, sadly now there are 2. One sit through of this is not enough for you are sure to miss elements. As timeless as The Beatles themselves, so is their story and this anthology.

The three-day Woodstock music festival in 1969 was the pivotal event of the 1960s peace movement, and this landmark concert film is the definitive record of that milestone of rock & roll history. The extra footage is Great!...but
Woodstock, the 40th Anniversary Ultimate Collector's Edition is an wonderful box but far from perfect. If you have the 1994 Director's Cut you already have the meat of this box set. The extra songs are great (really!) but only worth paying for if you're itching for any new footage. Of course, if you don't already have a version of the Woodstock concert on DVD, then by all means get this box. The extra DVD contains three songs from the Creedence Clearwater Revival set which is fantastic to finally see (along with extra songs from another dozen groups). And PLEASE buy if from Amazon as they include their own exclusive DVD with a few very rare songs (limited time). The Life magazine reprint is fun but I would have preferred they replaced most of the "stuff" with another DVD. My personal peeve is the absence of Melanie. Even it you get this box set, it will still be worth the money to buy the 2 DVD set of +Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock+ and (if you still have a VHS player that works) its also worth seeking out the VHS tape from 1991 titled, +Woodstock: The Lost Performances+ which contains a hour of songs that are not in the new box set. The extra songs in the new box set are not integrated into the Movie, so you will have to change DVD's to see all the songs of a particular group. Perhaps when the 50th Anniversary rolls around we will finally get a box that puts all the performance footage together as it ought to be. If not, maybe we can have our Cryogenically frozen heads defrosted in time for the 100th Anniversary (don't count on it). Oh, as to the complaints of others about the songs being "corrected", just ignore them, the sound is great.

A Great Film Meets Blu-Ray, Amazing Results
3 hours 44 minutes 19 seconds long (edit), probably the greatest music event ever, a remarkable documentary; finally meets the sound and visual treament it always deservered (Blu-Ray and Dolby TruHD).

For those familiar with the movie, you've never seen this film in such perfection. A pristine or incredibly well cleaned print of this film was lovingly transfered to 1080p resolution. The transfer is so good, you can actually see the grain of the film. There is no more that can be done to improve video at home. I'm pretty certain that the theater sound systems were nowhere near up to the level of home theater today. The addition of rear channels and subwoofers, and given the limitations of the original recording, just can't get better. Since this film is all about the music, what could possibly be better? There were times when the couch rattled with the power of the bass. The one nit, the surrounds tend to be a bit loud, so the soundstage gets a little confused. I'll take that any day of the week to hear this music the way it was recorded.

For those new to Woodstock - buy this version. The music: some of the best rock, folk, and blues music ever. Hendrix, The Who, Jefferson Airplane - the gods of rock and roll. Crosby, Stills and Nash, Joan Baez, John Sebastian, Janis Joplin, Arlo Guthrie - the crossover gods of folk music. Canned Heat, Joe Cocker, Ten Years After - crossover blues.

The Jimi Hendrix' three songs are almost worth the price alone - the greatest guitar player ever, playing to a very small crowd at the end of Woodstock (that will teach people that leave early to beat the traffic).

The movie is what documentary film making is all about, capture the moment, render the feeling, place the audience in the event. The opening, pristine fields, interviews with locals, traffic rolling in, and the gorgeous CS&N singing Long Time Gone; followed by Canned Heat Going Up The Country; ending in CS&N Wooden Ships. The feeling is almost surreal as the site gets more and more crowded. Richie Havens opens the concert with his great acoustic guitar playing and protest songs. It's not straight linear time filming, but uses shots from different times to support the story line. Arlo Guthrie sings 'Coming into Los Angeles', a song about flying on an ariplane with a couple of keys (drug running); the visuals are of people enjoying that drug. It's almost a McGyver for how to enjoy that drug. The film cuts back occasionally to Guthrie singing at night. The director Michael Wadleigh uses split screens (twos, threes and fours) at just the right moments. The Who play and what is more important, Roger Daltry singing or Pete Townshend playing guitar? We get both with a 3 screen split, because they are both incredibly important to the performance. Wadleigh knows what is important and gives it to the viewer.

The soundtrack to the main film was reworked in a few places. Santana's Soul Sacrafice is very obviously altered - the marachas emit sound when they are nowhere near a microphone, and the sound is specifically placed in surrounds or specific channels. It's pretty clear when this enhancement was done. Is that a crime? On the one hand, yes - it isn't what was really performed at Woodstock exactly that way. No its not a crime - you can think of these as sound effects that don't alter the feel of the performance. Purists already know what they think about this. Personally, I don't have a lot of problem with the changes.

Disc 2 - Bonus Features. Two parts, more music and a look at behind the scenes / snapshot of life in the late 60's early 70's.

The music - for one reason or another these performances were not included in the movie. Some, the sound wasn't recorded very well, some the film was underexposed, some acts just weren't popular enough, or some just didn't fit the story line. Frankly, pick your reason for the clip you happen to love. The description of this disc includes the play list, it's long. The great part of Blu-Ray, the music is presented as a table and you make your own playlist that you then play. It can be saved, skipped around, whatever. Great way to watch the clips. The three Amazon bonus tracks are excellent.

The Film bonuses. This is a bit less great. In some ways it's a view at television / life in the 60's / 70's. The Hugh Hefner bit was interesting, but there was too much talking head for my taste. Playboy After Dark was an icon of the era, and it would have been way better to just play the 20 minutes of that show - instead there's only about 3 or 4 minutes of super young Hugh Hefner (and glimpses of the gorgeous young Barbie Benton next to him). Mostly these featurettes are like what you see in most movies anymore, talking heads, some clip back to the film or examples. It runs long, it runs deep. If you are addicted to Woodstock - you will enjoy this more than you can imagine. For normal humans, probably pass on this whole featurette section.

The film is rated R for good reason. Strong language, drug use (almost a how to film), and nudity are all there. No, younger viewers should not see this. Up until the Arlo Guthrie song, would be acceptable (almost the first half of the film).

This edition with all the funky packaging. I've posted some pictures of a more or less unboxing. The pictures inside the acrylic frame is lame - the frame is actually kind of cool (use it for another picture - it's held together with magnets). The reprinted Life Magazine is sweet. The best, in my view, is the reprinted ticket on heavy ticket stock. Frankly, all the extras aren't really worth much extra money. I would have gladly bought this as a straight no extra stuff, blu-ray edition with the two discs alone.

Inexcusable DVD transfer
I have owned the director's cut of this on VHS for years and the VHS version is superb visually and the sound is excellent.

I bought the DVD so I could have chapter access to each performance. Indeed, the DVD does have that, but it is all for naught.

The picture on the DVD is vastly inferior to the VHS. Images that can be clearly seen on the VHS don't register many times at all on the DVD, i.e the outline and some features of a guy dancing are clearly visible on the VHS as they were on film in a theatre. On the DVD, you just see the outine of the figure with a hint of subtler visual attributes. The sound on the DVD is the worst I've heard on any release from a major company. I've seen and heard better on second-rate VHS's and DVD's from the likes of Laserdisc.

Boy, will I read those ratings on visual and sound quality from now on. The review on Amazon's "technical information" for this DVD is absoulutely correct.

I will never buy another DVD or VHS from Warner Bros without first renting and previewing it. So I still watch my 2-tape VHS of this landmark film of this one-time phenomenon.

The DVD is on one two-sided disc, which doesn't even break at the intermission, to rub salt in this inexcusable mangling from Warner Bros. First, they blew their initial Kubrick set and now this disgrace.

If you want this film on video, get in the well-done and tecnically superior VHS double tape. Incompent .... Jack Warner would have kicked who ever is responsible for this rip-off DVD most deservedly in the teeth...

An essential collection!
This is a review of the VHS video "Michael Jackson: Video Greatest Hits HIStory" Vol. 1. Whether or not you are a fan of Michael Jackson, this is an essential video because it shows how good music videos can be. BILLIE JEAN is a striking video that broke down color barriers on MTV; THE WAY YOU MAKE ME FEEL has a loose improvisational feeling to it which makes it fun to watch; BLACK OR WHITE is modern masterpiece complete with morphing and the controversial "panther dance" sequence. In the original version of this video, Michael smashes in a car windshield that has racist grafitti on it... he is fighting back against the racism. However, in the version included on this tape, the grafitti is edited out, so we just see Michael smashing a window for no apparent reason. Even so, the video is still an amazing experience! ROCK WITH YOU takes us back to 1980 before Michael's plastic surgery; BAD and BEAT IT include some of the best choreography even seen in music videos, although the version of BAD on this tape is the short version, not the full version with Wesley Snipes. This tape also includes the videos for Thriller, Remember The Time, Don't Stop Till You Get Enough and Heal The World in their entirety. This video is a powerful mix of music, dance, and film. Even if you don't think Michael is the King of Pop, this collection proves he is the King of VIDEO!

An excellent DVD
This is an excellent DVD. The sound and picture quality is brilliant and the songs and music videos are some of the best around. The King Of Pop is great!

Brace Yourself - A good intro to the DVD showing clips of Michael performing live in front of many fans. "Brace Yourself"...

Billie Jean - This is one of the best Michael Jackson videos ever released. A highlight.

The Way You Make Me Feel - This nine and a half minute version is great and also rarely seen!

Black Or White - My all-time favourite Michael video. It made me laugh at the beginning and the rest of it was brilliant!

Rock With You - Not keen on the song but I love the video!

Bad - The full-length 18-minute version is a must-have! It shows Michael as a young school boy at the beginning.

Thriller - Possibly the most popular Michael video. It needed to make this collection!

Beat It - A great video and a great song. Another highlight.

Remember The Time - I just love this video! Not only is the song good, but it includes a great egyptian-style video!

Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough - Not one of my favourites, but not bad either.

Heal The World - This song and video end the DVD nicely!

Overall, this may not be as good as History On Film: Volume 2 or Dangerous: The Short Films, but it's still worth the money.

This is a great video that shows not only the evolution of Michael Jackson's music, but also that of his appearance. Co-stars include Eddie Murphy, Iman, Magic Johnson, McAuley Culkin, Bart and Homer Simpson, and others. An exceptional video!!! *In the video Black or White, Michael appears to be furiously smashing the windows of a car for no reason. In the original, racist graffiti is painted on the windows. This was edited out in this version. Relax, Michael is not crazy. Or at least not that crazy.

Diana Krall has had a long time fascination with bossa nova, a type of music which perfectly suits her sophisticated yet sensual style. great show
I saw the show on the 25th (monday) and i thought it was a GREAT show. I saw Clapton a couple months later at PNC and i thought he played a bit better that night (it was kindof epic) BUT this is still an excellent show. i love these boys and it was so great to see them together (i've seen winwood solo 5 times and clapton twice). i've been to tons of concerts in my life and this one definitely ranks high on my list of the greatest! recommend this dvd for fans of either or both artists. ONE question thought. DOES ANYBODY KNOW WHICH NIGHT (25TH, 25TH OR 28TH) THESE PERFORMANCES ARE FROM?? I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW BUT I CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THIS INFO ANYWHERE!

Some things are meant to be!
Clapton And Winwood have just dropped a forty year Time Bomb on the Baby Boom Generation with this release. Soul Psychedelisizing, Electrifying, Riveting performances...Very Special! What a great Mix of tunes...Awesome tributes to many of the greats who have left us...Ray, Buddy and Jimi to name a few. WOW! Absolutely incredible Sound and Video...I was very lucky to have seen Blind Faith Live at the old Olympia Stadium in Detroit, Michigan during the Summer of 69, when I was just a boy. You won't want to miss this show if it comes to your Neighborhood In June. I have never seen Winwood and Clapton having so much fun! Great Stuff...Get it!

Live at Madison Square Garden - EC and SW
First thing first, this is a fantastic dvd that is a must have for any musician -especially a guitar player. I saw one review that complained about too many guitar solos??? For me, that is the highlight of this amazing release. There are some extended jams that shows the true talent of these guys who really invented the jam band. Eric Clapton played some of the most inspired guitar in his entire career. It may have been the incredible sound of SW's keys that provided the foundation for the inspired play. His playing on double trouble definitely made me pick up my strat... Steve Winwood still has an amazing voice along with great chops on the organ, but it was cool to see him jam on his guitar during Dear Mr. Fantasy. He is a great guitar player and I would have liked to see him play more of it along with EC on this dvd. BUT, when you have a guitar gun-slinger like Eric Clapton for a sideman, I can see why he let EC handle most of the guitar! Eric Clapton looked as if he really enjoyed playing during this performance. I have to think it was playing on songs that were fun to play for him. The highlights for me were them changes-glad-pearly queen-little wing-voodoo child-can't find-dear mr fantasy. The only reason I give it a 4 star is that I am not sure you need another version of cocaine - and it added nothing to the show. And I think there could have been a few more extra songs on the 2nd dvd. But I have watched this dvd several times and actually enjoy it more than the Cream re-union dvd. Not sure why, because Cream is one of my favorite groups of all time. But that says a lot for this dvd. The camara gets in tight on EC's guitar playing which is a dream for any guitar players. And it is not the usual fast cut style that we see too often in concert dvd's. It is easy to watch and listen to. I have to get the cd now!

Streisand History
As the DVD co-director/producer Gary Smith says, this Streisand concert MUST be documented for generations to come. Whether or not you're a die-hard fan, owning this piece of history is also a MUST. Barbra Streisand, the 'perfectionist' also shows the truth in her imperfections. A missed note, a hoarse voice at times, her connection (or non-connection) with a lyric, everything that makes her human is included here. Not only the amazing concert of 2006 but a little bit of her maturing process as an artist is here, too. Watch the newest concert first but be sure to enjoy the look back at her first specials from the mid-sixties, her creative process for her huge success on The Broadway Album. Barbra, thanks for sharing!

Amazing Streisand
There will never be another talent like Streisand! The music, sound and amazing voice is beyond words in beauty. She has given us a gift that will last a life time. A must for those that love her music and appreciate true talent. This will remind me always of when I saw her live in NY which is one of my greatest memories. Thank you Barbra!

New *TREASURES* (sort-of) To Add To The Collection!
There's some new stuff to add to your Barbra collection with the BARBRA STREISAND: THE CONCERT DVD set.

First off, the concert from 2006 features songs that have been beloved by Barbra fans for many years but we've never had the treat of seeing them performed live. Some songs have been performed on live albums like "Starting Here, Starting Now" (from Live Concert at the Forum) and "Come Rain Or Come Shine" (from Streisand: Live In Concert (2 CD's) or if you were lucky enough to get the bonus CD from the "Timeless" Concert). Other songs like "(Have I Stayed) Too Long At The Fair?" and "Funny Girl" have never been performed live (at least not to my knowledge) so you get some new stuff to see.

The musical intro and outro is from the Funny Girl (1964 Original Broadway Cast) overture and Barbra performs "The Music That Makes Me Dance," which was replaced with "My Man" in the movie version of Funny Girl.

Another highlight from the 2006 concert DVD is a Q&A with the audience where they get to participate in a short sing-a-long to the song "Stoney End" (Stoney End). I wish this was longer!

I believe this is the concert that aired on HBO that was filmed after Barbra's triumphant New Year's Eve Concert in 1993-94.

---DVD #3---MAKING OF THE BROADWAY ALBUM FROM 1985
First time on DVD showing the recording sessions for acclaimed The Broadway Album and Barbra talks with famed movie director William Friedkin. The bonus clips are all from the various Streisand Television specials which aired from 1965-1973. These television specials are available in their entirety from the box set Barbra Streisand - The Television Specials.

The CONCERT... set also comes with a small color booklet with liner notes by writer and musical supervisor Jay Landers and has some pictures in it.

So even though it isn't an earth shattering live cabaret performance filmed at the "Hungry-i" from the 60s that was "found" among the vaults, STREISAND: THE CONCERT offers enough new material to keep us fans happy.

Of course Barbra's voice has changed over the years, as she might not have the range she used to, but she still has that vocal power and unmistakable sound that is pure Streisand.

KISS have always had an approach to their fans that on the one hand could be seen as ridiculously crass and on the other as truly generous. And this release, with its three expertly mastered and crammed DVDs--issued with three separate bonus discs--could easily support either view. The second installment in KISS's Kissology DVD series will sort out the casual fans from the true members of the KISS Army. The material included here, after all, begins in 1978, when the band released four separate solo albums at once and their massive popularity began to wane. It continues on through the controversial makeup-free period and ends in '91, as KISS struggled to cope with the ascendancy of grunge over the hair metal style they'd experienced a second boom with. The concert films are pretty great, but the full-length Tom Snyder Tomorrow show appearance is flat-out brilliant, as is their live performance on the short-lived sketch comedy show Fridays. And the highlight of the set has to be the "European theatrical version" of their made-for-TV film KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park. All those who've suffered through poorly degenerated video bootlegs will glory at this wonderfully restored piece of rock and roll camp. --Mike McGonigal

Gene Simmons-That's what i expected from them
I am a bit disappointed that Kiss releases a bunch of concerts with such an awful sound quality. This should have been brought back to the studio and the sound needed to be mixed again. These concerts sound really poor. I am from europe and i was waiting 3 weeks for the delivery. The box and the package is OK but Kiss should be more respectful with the customers and the fans.

I won't buy the other 3 packages, not even for 1 $. Gene has to think over.

Kissology 2 Rocks !!
Kissology 2 78-91 The 3 disc collection with the bonus DVD of Budokan Hall, Japan concert footage from 88. Disc One features the Kiss movie "Attack of the Phantoms" which is it's DVD premiere. Disc 2 covers Peter leaving the band before the Australian tour and features the Australian invasion of Kiss with great Australian concert footage from Sydney. Disc 3 features concert footage of Brazil, Philly & Detroit. Nice booklet & bonus reproduction of the launch ticket for the movie .. the really neat stuff that Kiss has always rewarded it's fans with. All the favorite songs from the Dynasty / Unmasked period.. with great concert footage of all the classics !!
A must for all Kiss fans.

I bought this item for my son's 39th birthday. He has been a huge KISS fan since he was 7. He is also a musician. He said KISS:Kissology Volume II was fantastic. He already has the other volumes.

good overall but I have a problem
This is a good starting point for an adult beginner which I am, tried to learn as a teenager but had little or no staying power then. The only problem with the DVD is I find it difficult to navigate through the thing which is frustrating and confusing. Have only gone through the Power chords, ADE triads and G and C triads and some of the practice tracks. The instructor is very good at explaining how to do things though he does go sort of fast but then maybe I am slow...

ok, on the whole the DVD is pretty good except for some sly marketing.

The DVD Fender presents : Getting started on Acoustic guitar is exactly the same as the Fender presents: Getting started on electric guitar. In fact the lessons on the Acoustic DVD are don on an electric guitar.

The DVD starts with, the lessons on this DVD will be taught on an electric guitar - then hey presto, the DVDs are the same from here on in.

Aside the DVD I gave the product 4 stars because the content is good. OK it lacks some theory but it gets you playing and learning. Lets be honest, that's what most people want to do, and that's why its called getting started on....

Learning some chords and scales should spark additional interest, and maybe then you can learn more on theory etc.

Great DVD
This is a great DVD if you are just getting started or know a little about playing the guitar. Keith Wyatt makes this fun and easy to understand. I got my first guitar twenty-eight years ago, but I only learned a few chords and eventually put it down to play the drums. Now I'm back to the guitar trying to learn how to really play, and this DVD has helped quite a bit.

I've read some complaints in these reviews that he is playing an electric guitar instead of an acoustic. It states right at the beginning that what he's teaching applies to the acoustic guitar as well. Also there is a whole section devoted to the acoustic guitar. Not much to complain about if you ask me.

Excellent quality blu-ray DVD
This unique concert looked great in a PBS broadcast, and is even better in a blu-ray DVD. This isn't one you'll use to show off wide screen HD video because of the nightclub setting and black and white production so there's nothing eye-popping. Nevertheless the production and transfer are immaculate and the sound is pristine. The guest artists are totally inobtrusive, the music and arrangements sound as good as the originals only with far better quality, and there is a total absence of extraneous chatter. It is just pure Orbison, who looks relaxed and pleased throughout. All the great hits are here still sounding fresh, along with that very special tenor you can't mistake for anyone else.
It is an unforgettable moment beautifully captured. This is simply the best concert recording I've ever seen and heard and well worth the purchase.

Actually Being There..........
Orbison himself sounds as powerful as ever, his soaring falsetto cresting as dramatically as it did on the studio versions of the hits that inevitably dominate. Those songs meanwhile confirm that his blue chip admiration society came as much for the caliber of his writing as for his ravishing voice: if he remains best known for the jaunty come-on of "Pretty Woman," Orbison was first and foremost a rock balladeer, capable of bringing lumps to our throats with such classics as "Crying" and "Only the Lonely," or conjuring romantic trances through such gentle charmers as "Dream Baby." On this night, he handled all of them with fervor and finesse.
I sampled all three tracks offered - DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1, Dolby Digital 5.1 PCM 2.0 - but kept the DTS-HD on for the majority of my first viewing (and completely on the next 2). It separates applause and crowd noises effectively to the rear speakers as well as some background vocals. The only weakness is that it seems too short - actually you never want it to end. This video has caught a wonderful night of cherished music performance and the Blu-ray is the best way to see it unless you had the rare privilege to see it life.

Classic Greatness
I actually have owned several copies of this great concert, but this will be the first review I have ever posted. Let me say, the first time I saw this concert on PBS I was stunned. Being a lifelong Roy fan, I didn't even know this concert existed... I purchased it the very next day... and since then it has been watched hundreds of times. Black and White Night was a concert towards the end of Roy's career, but it really did put him back on top where he belongs.

Pink Floyd - Pulse

At long last Pink Floyd: Pulse has arrived on DVD, and Floyd fans already know it's a major cause to celebrate. The original VHS release was a milestone bestseller, but it seemed to take forever for the DVD to arrive, with numerous delays while Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and long-time Floyd producer James Guthrie labored to restore, re-edit, and remix this legendary concert video in 5.1-channel Dolby Surround Sound. The resulting two-disc set was well worth the wait: While the limitations of the original video source are still evident in the sometimes-hazy image quality (Gilmour would later admit the concert should have been captured on film), Floyd fans will unanimously agree that Pulse has never looked or sounded better, and only the absence of group co-founder Roger Waters prevents this from being the ultimate document of Pink Floyd in performance. (Even without Waters, it's easily one of the group's most impressive stage productions.) Gracefully directed with minimal intrusion by veteran music video and concert director David Mallet, and shot on video during Pink Floyd's two-week stint at London's Earls Court Exhibition Centre in October 1994, this 145-minute performance (from Floyd's Division Bell tour) is a sonic marvel to behold. Under a massive arch festooned with then-state-of-the-art laser, lighting, and projection systems, the 1987 incarnation of Pink Floyd (Gilmour, keyboardist Richard Wright, and drummer Nick Mason) and their stellar supporting band kicks off with "Shine on You Crazy Diamond" (a loving tribute to Floyd co-founder Syd Barrett), followed by four tracks from The Division Bell, two from 1987's A Momentary Lapse of Reason, "Another Brick in the Wall (Part 2)" from 1979's magnum opus The Wall, and leading into intermission with an absolutely stunning performance of "One of These Days," the timeless opening track from 1971's Meddle.

The centerpiece of Disc 2 is a near-perfect performance of 1974's Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety--reason enough to make this a must-have DVD for even the most casual Floyd admirers. And while no one will ever re-create the sheer magnificence of Clare Torry's original tour de force vocals on "The Great Gig in the Sky," it's safe to say that backup singers Sam Brown, Claudia Fontaine, and Durga McBroom deliver the next best thing, in addition to seamless contributions throughout the concert. After the closing heartbeat of "Eclipse," the concert ends with encore performances of "Wish You Were Here," "Comfortably Numb," and a no-holds-barred, pyrotechnically explosive rendition of The Wall's "Run Like Hell," all showcasing Gilmour's guitar mastery with frequent close-ups of his picking and fret-work as seen throughout the concert. (Like Gilmour, Mason and Wright were never dynamic onstage, and that's true here as well, but their technical precision is fully evident, and while guitarist Tim Renwick and saxophonist Dick Parry are each given moments to shine, bassist Guy Pratt is a worthy substitution for Waters, especially when vocally sparring with Gilmour on "Run Like Hell.")

With beautiful packaging, an 8-page booklet, and menu designs by long-time Floyd associate Storm Thorgerson, the DVDs offer an abundance of bonus features including "Bootlegging the Bootleggers," featuring surprisingly good-quality "boot" video performances of "What Do You Want From Me?," "On the Turning Away," "Poles Apart," and "Marooned." The surreal round-ratio screen films seen throughout the concert can all be viewed independently (still in round format, and several offered in both original and alternate versions). Music videos for "Learning to Fly" and "Take It Back" are included on Disc 1, along with "Tour Stuff" including maps, itineraries, and stage plans for the 1994 tour. "Say Goodbye to Life as We Know It" is a playful backstage video (mostly involving the production staff's ongoing quest for a good pint of beer), and after delivering a heartfelt introduction to Pink Floyd's 1996 induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (with Roger Waters and Syd Barrett acknowledged by Gilmour), Smashing Pumpkins leader Billy Corgan joins Gilmour and Wright for a moving acoustic performance of "Wish You Were Here" (directed at Waters, perhaps?). Additional features include album cover art, a photo gallery, and the concert-only audio choice between a 448kbps audio bitstream or a higher-quality 640kbps stream for higher-quality DVD players. The system set-up feature ensures that audiophiles will achieve optimum speaker performance in keeping with Pink Floyd's exacting technical standards. In tandem with the superior concert presentation, these features make Pulse one of the best--if not the best--music DVDs of 2006, guaranteed to satisfy Floyd fans for many years to come. --Jeff Shannon

Unbaleeevable!
I own about 25 concert dvd's- blues, historical, guitar players, rock and metal and this is by far the best dvd I have ever watched. The light show alone is worth the cost 2 times over. The song list is great and the quality of sound and video is exceptional. The only one close to this would be Rush in Rio. I practically had an out of body experience watching this, levitated, and was taken to infinity. Amazing!

Three Generations of Fans
I recieved the VHS as a gift when I was pregnant with my son. I remember being about 7 months along and cranking this through my surround sound system. After he was born, my mother, another big fan, watched him during the day and played the tape as background music while he was playing.

My son is now 12 years old, and a HUGE Pink Floyd fan as well as a music lover in general. He plays in his school band and in 7th grade is already playing with the advanced 8th graders. He is now trying to learn the sax solo from Money.

Being in the middle of 3 generations of fanatics, I can say this is well worth every penny. I normally shun concert videos, but this one draws you in. Every song is spectacular. The light and video show is stunning. With the passing of Richard Wright this year, the movie is also poignant.

An absolute must have! Dear God, please let them release this on Blu-Ray!
