DVD Editors' Picks of 2008

To celebrate a year of superhero blockbusters and surprise indie hits, we'd like to share with you our favourite movies and TV series of 2008. Have a browse for inspiration, or to see if your own favourites are featured.

It's been a year of great TV and major movie releases. Batman and Iron Man entertained the superhero fans, and Sex and the City and Mamma Mia were two of the highest grossing movies of 2008. There was plenty to watch on the box too, both from the UK and across the pond.

Here are our favourite DVDs of the year and a little bit about why we love them so...

Lost - The Complete Fourth Season [Blu-ray]: Beautifully shot with a smoulderingly hot cast and the new addition of flash forwards. The latest series of Lost was made to be watched in Hi-Def.




The Matrix/Matrix Reloaded/Matrix Revolutions [Blu-ray]: This box set is a must-own for anyone new to Hi-Def entertainment. It’s jaw-dropping entertainment at its brilliant best.




(THB 70.03) WALL-E (2 Disc Special Edition): Pixar’s latest offering is a joy to behold. It works on so many different levels, and is ultimately a work of art.




Sexy Beast: Cockney gangsters move to Spain but the lure of the next job proves too much. Ben Kingsley makes the best worst baddie ever.




Fonejacker - Series 2 - Complete: Plenty of old-fashioned, harmless horseplay, the Fonejacking prankster is guaranteed to give you the giggles.




Cashmere Mafia: Harmless, feelgood fun filled with witty one-liners and four strident female leads. Perfect for anyone missing Carrie and friends.




Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging: Gorgeous, quirky and full of soul, this British teenage romcom celebrates youth, growing up and good old-fashioned romance.




In Bruges: The surprise hit of the year. Full of great one-liners, beautiful city sights, action, tragedy, a racist dwarf and even a love story.




(THB 35.01) Gavin And Stacey : Series 1-2: Beautiful characterisation, sharp wit and oodles of charm made this one of the best sellers of 2008.




Pushing Daisies - Complete Season 1: Original, colourful and funny, and starring our very own Anna Friel. A treat for any TV fan.




Sex And The City: Seasons 1 - 6 Complete Box Set: Sassy box sets don’t get much pinker and more glamorous. More entertaining than a new handbag any day.




The Wire: Complete HBO Season 1-5: Arguably the most impressive and engaging TV show of recent memory, David Simon’s The Wire is a true cultural phenomenon.




Juno: Colourful, quirky and full of laughs, you can’t help but love Juno MacGuff and her wonderful way with words.
