Twilight (Two-Disc Special Edition)
Directed by Catherine Hardwicke
Average customer review:
The big-screen adaptation of Twilight, Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire romance, is aimed squarely at its key demographic: teen girls whose idea of Prince Charming is a brooding, pale, undead teen who could kill you instantly at any moment. Such a prince is more fascinating than frightening to new girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart), who moves to the rainy-gray town of Forks, Wash., to live with her dad (Billy Burke), the local sheriff who's puzzled by a series of "animal attacks." On her first day at school, Bella appears to (visibly) nauseate her lab partner, Edward (Robert Pattinson). Turns out the scent of her blood is this vampire's "brand of heroin," and his struggle not to kill her causes an irresistible pull toward her. Whether he's attracted for the normal reasons or because she smells especially sweet to him is vague in the book and even less clear on-screen; nonetheless, Bella falls hopelessly in love with Edward, which sets her on a dangerous path when a few nomad vampires show up in town, one particularly keen on tracking the human. Directed by Catherine Hardwicke (Thirteen), Twilight is full of funny moments--not all of which are intentional--and the casting, from Stewart to Bella's self-absorbed friend Jessica (Anna Kendrick) is spot-on. The weakest link, unfortunately, is Pattinson. While he certainly looks the part, his Edward could have used an extra injection of testosterone (Pattinson, who is British, used James Dean as a model for his American accent). In scenes where he growls about the temptation to kill those who would harm Bella, or flitting around a forest warning her how dangerous he is, he comes off more like a whimpering puppy than a debonair monster. The good news is, his chemistry with Stewart (particularly in their big kissing scene) is palpable, which, let's face it, is really what matters to Twilight fans most. --Ellen A. Kim

Amazing book adaptation!
I have been a fan of the Twilight saga for almost 3 years, and I really expected a lot from this movie. I was used to the fact that almost all of my favorite books always get butchered in movie adaptations because of lousy scripts and too young, inexperienced actors. That's not the case with this movie! The script was extremely well written, considering the fact that the book is really long, and not all details and happenings could fit into 120 min movie! All of the actors were extremely amazing, especially Kristen Stewart as Bella.

The Three Stooges Collection, Vol. 5: 1946-1948
From Sony Pictures
Average customer review:
This fifth collection of The Three Stooges, which features 25 digitally remastered shorts from 1946-1948, marks the end of Curly's career with the Stooges and the return of original Stooge Shemp. Curly suffered a stroke on the final day of filming HALF-WITS HOLIDAY and retired at age 43. Moe realized there was only one person who could fill baby brother Curly's shoes: his older brother Shemp (who, ironically, Curly had replaced in 1932). The Three Stooges were born in 1925 when Moe and Shemp met Larry Fine. But the 1930's Shemp left to pursue a film career in Hollywood. By the time Moe called in 1946, he was starring in films with the likes of W.C. Fields, John Wayne and Abbott and Costello. But he accepted Moe's offer, and the original Three Stooges reunited. Shemp's first short upon his return was FRIGHT NIGHT . And Curly did recover enough to make an appearance in HOLD THAT LION, but his health continued to deteriorate and he unfortunately passed away in 1952 at age 48. The Three Stooges Collection Volume 5 is bittersweet for the change but filled with more fun than ever?and the added bonus of not only Larry, Moe and Curly, but Shemp too!
Customer Reviews
Lots of changes taking place but the quality remains highThis is a bit more of an uneven collection than the previous four. And, it's not because of the appearance of the vastly underrated Shemp Howard - it's Curly. As much of a genius as Curly Howard unquestionably was, it is difficult to watch him in his final shorts. His illness negatively colors the films and fouls up the greatest Stooge dynamic. Curly is robbed of his manic energy, cannot stand up to Moe, and comes off as pathetic. Seeing Moe clobber a stroke victim is not funny, it's sad. Luckily, due to the circumstances, the comedic emphasis was placed on Moe & Larry, the latter especially proving himself as a great laugh getter now that he was given more to do. Things pick up enormously when Shemp rejoins the Stooges. The changes he brings are all for the good but the basic three-way dynamic does change. First off, all three are more or less on par with each other (as opposed to some classic Curly shorts where Larry is pushed far into the background). Second, Shemp's character is more diffident than Curly's, so there is less opposition to Moe. However, Shemp's character is far more of a sardonic wiseacre than Curly's, so the whole act slides more into a Brooklyn wise-guy area than before. With the surrealism Curly bought to the table gone, the tone of the act comes more down to Earth. Some will forever miss the bizarre lunacy of the Curly years, but these Shemp efforts are consistently hilarious. Due to shrinking budgets, the films are smaller in scope but no less funny. However, after 1950 and the loss of some their best producers and directors (Ed Bernds & Hugh McCollum), the series does begin to suffer with remakes becoming more and more frequent. However, the Shemp episodes featured in this collection are the best of the best! All in all, despite it's ups and downs, a fine volume. Did I mention that Shemp is piss-your-pants funny?

JAG (Judge Advocate General) - The Eighth Season
From Paramount
Average customer review:
JAG (Judge Advocate General) is an elite legal branch of military officers trained as lawyers who investigate, prosecute and defend those accused of crimes in the military, including murder, treason and terrorism. Navy Cmdr. Harmon "Harm" Rabb, an ace pilot turned lawyer, and Marine Lt. Col. Sarah "Mac" MacKenzie, a beautiful and strictly by-the-book officer, are colleagues, both with similar high standards, that often find themselves clashing with one another as they take different routes to solve cases. Assisting them with their mission is Navy Lt. Bud Roberts, a lawyer who often surprises his superiors with the breadth of his knowledge, and their boss, the no-nonsense Admiral Chegwidden, a former Navy Seal.

NCIS/JAG Episodes
Season Eight was when two episodes (Ice Queen 8-20 and Meltdown 8-21) included the soon-to-be spun-off NCIS staff. Gibbs, Ducky, Abby and Tony in addition to Director Morrow (seasons one and two). There were also two special agents who did not make the NCIS series.
A bit of trivia, Patrick Labyorteaux and Mark Harmon both starred in Summer School in 1987. A classic film that can be enjoyed by all.

Bolt (Three-Disc Edition w/ Standard DVD + Digital Copy) [Blu-ray]
Directed by Chris Williams; Byron Howard
Average customer review:
Bolt is a funny animated film about a dog who thinks he has superpowers. It is also a movie about friendship, perseverance, and the power of believing in oneself. Everyone knows that superheroes on television are not real, but super-dog Bolt (John Travolta) is a canine star who has been carefully raised to believe that he really possesses superpowers. Bolt is completely devoted to his human co-star Penny (Miley Cyrus), so when Penny is captured by the evil Dr. Calico (Malcolm McDowell) in their latest television episode and then Bolt accidentally gets loose in the real world, Bolt sets off on a journey to save her. Bolt is confounded when his super powers are suddenly ineffective, but inspiration strikes and Bolt quickly discovers the mysterious, power-stealing effects of Styrofoam packing peanuts. An encounter with alley cat Mittens (Susie Essman) gives Bolt some eye-opening lessons about being a real dog in the real world, while star-struck, ball-enclosed hamster Rhino (Mark Walton) revels in the opportunity to serve as Bolt's sidekick in the quest to rescue Penny. The trio traverses the United States from waffle house to waffle house on a hysterical quest to find Penny and prove that the relationship between Penny and Bolt is real. In the end, Bolt, Mittens, and Rhino learn that everyone is special in their own way and they discover the true power of believing in oneself and one's friends. Select theaters showed Bolt in Real-D 3-D which features some nice effects, but the film is probably equally enjoyable in the traditional format. A fun film with a nice message and a huge dose of cute, Bolt is good entertainment for the entire family. --Tami Horiuchi

Bolt: It surprised me how great it was.
I am a HUGE fan of animated movies and take them very seriously when watching them. I love Pixar movies to death, but I haven't liked a Disney movie since Mulan. When I went to see Bolt in theaters, I expected it to be a very badly made sell-out just so more toys could be made for kids to buy. I had to admit, the plot was pretty intriguing but I didn't expect much. In about 5 minutes after the movie started (I'm not kidding) I was intrigued. Bolt was an incredibly likable character as was Mittens. The plot was hooking and though the story moved at the pace and technique of a normal Disney movie, the script and the interesting characters kept things unique and creative. I DO think the movie could have done without Rhino, the annoying-as-hell hamster, but it IS a kids movie and Rhino is full of kid-humor. Bolt convinced me to love it when I was sure I'd hate it. I've never been so happy to eat my words. I'm definitely pre-ordering this and everyone who's been longing for a GOOD Disney movie should too.

Barney Miller: The Complete Third Season
From Sony Pictures
Average customer review:
The men of the 12th Precinct are back for another season of big laughs and bad coffee! Fires, blackouts, smog ? elections. The third season gives a wild look at New York City during one of its most dynamic times, the late '70s, an era before the term "politically correct" existed. Join Hal Linden as wise police Captain Barney Miller along with Officers Fish (Abe Vigoda), Wojo (Max Gail), Harris (Ron Glass), Yemana (Jack Soo) and guest stars Dietrich (Steve Landesberg), Officer Levitt (Ron Carey) and Inspector Luger (James Gregory) in this hilarious Emmy®-winning comedy. With a station of wacky misfits and wild New Yorkers, the third season is full of guest stars including Billy Barty (UHF), James Cromwell (TV's 24), Doris Roberts (TV's Everybody Loves Raymond), Brett Somers (TV's Match Game), and Michael Tucci (Grease). So funny it's criminal, Barney Miller: The Complete Third Season is a must-have for any DVD collection!

They Just Don't Make'um Like This Anymore! My wife and I have enjoyed Barney Miller since it's inception.
We started recording each ep. when we got our first VHS recorder, and have worn out two complete taped series, then when it again appeared on TV Land, recorded it on SVHS tape again, and after we bought our DVD recorder I began to transfer all our tapes to disc.
During that time we were estatic to see them being relised commercially by Sony, and are currently anxiously awaiting the pre-ordered arrival of the third season.
These are great due to the uncut versions, unlike the syndicated versions which had to be cut to fit the newer time slots.
My only complaint is how long it takes between release between seasons. I can only hope Sony continues to release the entire series.
The writing of this series is supperb, as well as the stars, and guest stars on the show.
The show has substance and continuity, which is severly lacking in todays sitcoms.
I doubt there will ever be another like it in this era.
However having the entire series from Sony would satisfy us for the rest of our lives!

Married With Children - The Complete Tenth Season
From Sony Pictures
Average customer review:
Oops! There goes the neighborhood - AGAIN! It's more hilarity with the Bundy's. This season, Peg's mother moves in after leaving Peg's father. Al can't build a doghouse in peace. Sex distracts Bud from studying, and Al pressures Kelly into entering a bikini contest for the $100,000 prize.

The Indomintable and Incorrigible Bundys Ride Again
If you like the Bundy family's triumphant representation of the dysfunctional family you will love this latest installment. There are only a few clunker episodes in the set, as opposed to the hideous Season 7 wasteland.
I love Al Bundy. What more can I say? Everything he does or says makes me laugh; his facial expressions and body language reveal his character so perfectly he could almost get by without saying a word or doing anything. Ed O'Neill has that degree of talent. Sadly, his co-stars don't, but they simply have to be there or there'd be no show for Al Bundy to become a TV immortal in.
I've heard far too many boneheads dismiss this show as vulgar or stupid or low-brow. Well of course it is! That is its charm and triumph: it transcends vulgarity, stupidity and low-brow humor by making those qualities almost lovable as exemplified by the Bundy family.
Well, it makes you laugh or it doesn't.

Thank you!!!
Thank you, thank you, thank you, Sony!! For releasing The Nanny on DVD. It is by far my absolute favourite sitcom of all time. I thought the day would never come for Season 3 to be released. Now I have hope for the next three seasons to follow and so do all the Nanny fans out there!! I have watched Seasons 1 & 2 over and over again and can still roar with laughter at all jokes even though I know what's coming. That's how hilarious it is. Please dont stop releasing the following seasons. Really looking forward to having all seasons to complete the story of Fran Fine. Thanks again.

Ghost Hunters: Season 4, Pt. 2
From Big Vision
Average customer review:
"Ghost Hunters" has become one of TV's most popular shows, and in Season Four: Part 2, Jason, Grant, and the rest of the TAPS team are back investigating claims of the paranormal from coast to coast! Join them as they travel from a sanitarium which has placed 911 calls to the police -- but there is no phone in the building! -- to the most haunted ship in the U.S. Navy. Then go to a tavern in a TAPS member's own hometown where customers are heard enjoying a game of pool but the hall is closed and empty, and a home where a small child hears voices and has unexplainable scratches on his body. TAPS even goes to the plantation seen in "Interview with a Vampire" where 35 tourists all witnessed the same paranormal activity at the same instant! These are just the tip of the apparition in the most thrilling installment of the "Ghost Hunters" series to date!
Customer Reviews
Great Show, But Flawed Season...First off, Ghost Hunters is awesome. It might be the most genuine show on television. I rememeber watching from the first episode, and I am surprised that it has caught on so well. Grant and Jason are really decent guys, and they were great to hunt with at the USS N. Carolina.
Now for the season. Lots of great episodes and great evidence. Kris Williams is an acceptable addition to the team. She is definitely on the novice side, and if the rumors are true then potentially an actress. But she doesn't bother me.
They need to get rid of Amy Bruni. This girl clearly believes herself to be a ghost hunting aficionado, but she is barely qualified to even hunt with TAPS. She has no idea what she is doing. Not to mention she's got the worst teeth this side of England. Ha.
The locales are great, but they should send back the "house" episodes as always. Too many dimwits who are too eager to waste J and G's time. On the upside, this is the better half of the season, with superior evidence. But also Amy Bruni, ugh!
If you're a GH fan, you already know if you're gonna buy this. For newcomers to the show, begin at season one or two.
And also: TOO MUCH K-2!!
